College Funding

FAFSA/ CADAA & CAL GRANT GPA

Cal Grant awards are state funded monetary grants given to students to help pay for college expenses. The requirements vary and the awards do not have to be paid back. You apply for all Cal Grants by completing the Free Application for Federal Student aid (FAFSA ) or the California Dream Act (CADAA) and having your school provide a GPA Verification to the California Student Aide Commission (CSAC). Morro Bay High School submits the GPA Verification electronically for ALL seniors by the October 1 deadline. Selection is based on financial need, academic performance, and other factors. In addition to applying for a Cal Grant you must meet the March 2nd FAFSACADAA deadline.

In order to be considered for a Cal Grant, California public high schools and charter schools are required to submit a high school Grade Point Average (GPA) to the California Student Aid Commission by October 1, for all graduating seniors, unless the student or parent has opted out (California Education Code section 69432.9). Students who do not opt out will have their GPA submitted to the Commission to be considered for a Cal Grant award.
