History of Morro Bay High School:
Morro Bay High School was first conceived in 1956 when the city voted on bonds for its construction. The support from the community was overwhelmingly in favor of a new High School and won by ratio of four to one. The school was completed in 1959. Initially, the school served 5 grades throughout the late 60s: 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade. In the 1970's the school began to follow the common 4 year structure of most American High Schools.
In 2014, another school bond measure was passed. Measure D, a $177 million bond to renew and revitalize the high schools in the SLCUSD boundaries, was supported by the voters. In 2016 construction began at Morro Bay High School. The school was redesigned to include an aquatic facility, dedicated theater, full functioning kitchen for student meals, new auto shop, re designed classrooms and administrative facilities, a STEAM facility, all weather track, a full restoration of the small gym, a wellness center, new student quad area, new landscaping, sidewalks and parking lot resurfacing and a new state of the art library and a college and career center.
Of note to our ALUMNI - the school continues the tradition of Male Athlete of the year which began in 1961 and the Female Athlete of the year which began in 1976.
