Description: Honors level Jazz Band approaches the instrumental jazz curriculum as a college preparatory course of study. Standards of individual instrumental technique as performed with a jazz ensemble are at the highest level. Advanced level jazz literature, advanced jazz theory, jazz history, and cultural relationships are the foundations of this course. Performances and any rehearsals, festivals, and workshops during after school hours are required.

Description: Wind Ensemble Honors is a select a group of advanced instrumental musicians who have auditioned and been selected to participate in this ensemble. Special emphasis is placed on solo and chamber performances as well as regular Symphonic rehearsal and performance where students will take a leadership role. Students accepted into this ensemble will be expected to expand their mastery of music theory, music history and analysis, and write a research paper. These students will also be expected to take private lessons on their instrument, either with a local private instructor or in the group lesson setting at the school site.

Description: Concert Choir I is an intermediate through advanced choral music class. Students must be able to match pitch accurately, and sing with sensitivity and skill. This ensemble will give some outside performances for the general public, perform in school assemblies, and also participate in selected festivals for adjudication. As in all choral-performing classes, the emphasis in Concert Choir I is ongoing musical development including choral tone, and a multitude of various choral characteristics.

Course Description: | What is music? This is the question that we will attempt to answer through examining and analyzing, discussing, listening, and experiencing music. We will explore music from the viewpoints of music as identity, music as innovation, and seeing how the sounds and music around us have shaped our world throughout centuries. Students will examine works by famous composers throughout history in all genres and will be able to listen and understand the context by which music is created and enjoyed by listeners young and old. Genres of music that will be studied will include classical, jazz, contemporary, minimalist, film music, as well as the study of music theory including melody, harmony, rhythm and notation. By the end of this course, students will be able to listen critically to music and be able to analyze it more deeply and with greater appreciation. |

Description: Honors level Music Production approaches the curriculum as a college preparatory course of study. Students are expected to apply their music performance and literacy knowledge to music composition and production. Students will interact with industry professionals to learn the skills necessary to maintain a successful career in music. This course explores the elements of music through composition, performance and production. It is an introductory course in sound recording and sound reproduction in studio applications. Beginning students will learn introductory piano keyboard skills while students with prior piano experience will have the opportunity to begin at their current level and progress to the next. Students will complete multimedia projects and explore digital music by using iPads as both instruments and Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). This course prepares students for careers in music, ranging from performer to producer and composer to recording engineer. Note: Replaces Music Production
