Description: This introductory course inspires students to think more creatively and improve his/her communication. Through a series of projects in various media students will be introduced to the elements and principles of visual art, such as line, shape/form, space, balance and emphasis. Students will develop art vocabulary in conjunction with the development of skills that will serve as the foundation for more complex works. Students will learn art techniques that will help develop skills to support creative expression as they explore the connections and application to visual arts. The importance of visual art in world culture is the foundation for exploring diverse topics in the history of art.

Description: Ceramics I P is a beginning course designed to teach students the nature of clay, basic hand building techniques of pinch coil and slab, basic ceramic sculpture construction, and glazes and glazing. Emphasis will be placed on craftsmanship and ceramic design.

Description: Ceramics II P is an intermediate course in which the student learns how to throw on the potter’s wheel and is encouraged to refine construction, sculpting, and decorative handbuilding skills. Emphasis will be placed on advanced glazing and construction of projects using multiple methods.

Description: This course covers an historical survey of man’s achievements in art from prehistoric to contemporary times. Appreciation of cultural and creative expression is emphasized, while examining issues such as politics, class, religion, gender, function, and ethnicity.

Students will develop technical skills and familiarize themselves with the functions of elements and principles of design as students create an individual portfolio of original work for evaluation at the end of the course. Students should master an understanding of the process of a professional artist and develop personal style.

Description: This advanced placement course is a professional, college level course. This course is for students who are interested in the exploration and mastery through three-dimensional mediums or processes, such as sculpture and ceramics. It is important that students will learn to express themselves in their own personal style and experiment with the elements and principles of art and design. Students learn that art making is an ongoing process in which they create, review, make modifications, and explore variations as they make critical decisions and develop their art forms. Ongoing group critiques with peers and the teacher, as well as ongoing individual conferences with the teacher, will take place throughout the course and form part of the assessment for the course. Other assessments will be formative and summative as requirements are completed.

Course Description: Advanced Graphic Design P is designed to be a career preparation class in which the student will develop a professional portfolio. The student will work with professional state of the art/industry multimedia software to develop projects for self and local businesses. In addition, the student will learn how to develop, create, revise, and present their work, as a working graphic designer would do.

Description: This course trains students in concepts and principles used in film and video production "from script to screen". The course exposes students to the basics of visual storytelling through the creation of storyboards, script writing, various shot types, camera movements, lighting, audio and techniques of editing. Emphasis is placed on the conceptualization, planning and execution of a film as well as the creative aspects of film production and film analysis. In addition, students will have opportunities to learn the skills necessary for jobs within the industry, such as director, editor, cinematographer, sound designer, screenwriter and others.
