This is an introductory course in black and white photography. We will use the book The Photographic Eye Learning, to see with a Camera by Michale F O’Brien and Norman Sibley.The student will learn photo history, 35mm manual camera parts and functions, lighting, B&W developing and printing along with the principles of photography which include line, texture, shape, light, motion and perspective. There will be critiques and shows in which the photo student is expected to participate. Photographing school events will be a part of this class.

The photography student will need:
Notbook paper and 3 ring binder
5 plastic sleeves for negatives
20 plastic sleeves for photo prints
Pen or pencil
5 dividers for
Supplied in class
B&W film
Paper to print
35 mm manual camera - The student is encouraged to use their own camera if possible.

Divider sections
1 - Warmups -Done at the beginning of the period this section is kept like a journal with date, topic and response. Topic will be on the front board for student to come in and respond to as class gets started.
2 - Notes - Informaitonl handouts and notes in this scetion in sequence by date. The first page of this section is a “Notes-Table of Contents” with each entry identified with the date and title.
3 - Assignments -Keep all graded and returned work in this section in sequence by date.
Keep all photo project, including unmounted prints, in the sheet protectors.

4 - Negatives - Keep all your negatives in this section in sequence by date. The first page of this section is a “Negatives-Table of Content” with each set of negatives identified with the date and title.
5 - Glossary -Keep the glossary of terms here. Use as a study guide.

Responsibilities:
Photo class comes with added responsibility for equipment and student behavior. There are safety issues at stake.
